Drift 2 images

Below are images from my Drift 2. For this drift stratgey I decided to just draw some lines on a map and follow where ever it lead me. My image capturing stratgey was to take pictures of nature and street signs. In my film though I only used the images of the stop signs.

The image on the right I took because it shows water and land and I thought that it looked intresting.

The image of the tree I thought was cool because the tree is so huge that it almost takes up the entire image.

I wanted to take a picture of this tree because all the branches created some really intresting lines and I thought that it looked very intresting.

I saw this tree and thought about how different life can be and how fast it goes by.

I saw this leaf and it caught my eye because the texture on the leaf almost matched the texture on the road. Rough and bumpy.

Images from Drift 1

If you would like to go to my Drift 1 blog spot, click here. For my drift stratgey I decided to draw a star on a map and follow that star as close as I could.

Here is where I head the windchimes in my first drift. I found this to be most relaxing even though it was very cold.

In drift 1 this is where I heard leaves crunching. I thought it was the coolest sound.

Here is where I heard someone cutting up wood for the winter using a chainsaw here.

This is where I heard cars go by. HWY167 is a very busy road and the traffic sounds was not to loud and not to quite.

Even though it was cold out, there were birds sitting out at a pond where the ice was starting to break up. They made some noises, and it was really nice to look at. I really could have sat there all day long.

Drift 2 map

Here is the map of where I did the drift 2 walk. It was a lot more different than where I did my first drift walk and I thought it was just as intresting.

Drift Atlas

For this project we had to create three different kinds of maps about the same thing. One was called a Sound body map, another was called Soundwalk map, and the final one was Sound log notes. Here they all are.

Next we were asked to answer a series of questions.

1) Were you able to find places and spaces where you could really listen? Yes, right by the piano in the Union.
2) Was it possible to move without making a sound? Not really beacuse my purse made lots of noise.
3) What happened when you plugged your ears, and then unplugged them? When I unplugged my ears i could hear alot more sounds than before.
What types of sounds were you able to hear? List them. If your original notes are legible, and include all of the sounds you heard, then simply link to the scanned image(s). If not, retype them so that we can read them. The link to my notes on what I heard are above.
Were you able to differentiate between sounds that had a recognizable source and those sounds you could not place? Yes however I did not hear a nose that I was not able to place.
Were you able to differentiate human, mechanical, and natural sounds? Yes, very easily too.
Were you able to detect subtleties, changes, or variations in the everpresent drone? I believe that I was able to however I guess I am not fully sure that I was able to understand the question.
Extremely close sounds? Sounds coming from very far away? I was able to hear sounds that were right infront of me and then sounds from the street.
Were you able to intervene in the urban landscape and create your own sounds by knocking on a resonant piece of metal, activating wind chimes, etc.? No I was not.
Do you feel you have a new understanding or appreciation of the sounds of our contemporary landscape/cityscape? Yes I do. I can hear noses more clearly.
How do you think your soundwalk experience will affect your practice as a media artist, if at all? As of right now I am not sure how this will have affected my media experience.
